UPDATED: Firefighters are tackling a large, out of control bonfire off Park Road in Ryde this evening (Monday).
1 appliance was mobilised to the scene behind a newly built block of flats at 19:00 following reports of a well-developed fire.
A main jet is currently being used to dowse the flames. Small explosions have been reported, believed to be as a result of aerosol cans.
Park Road is closed in both directions whilst the incident is ongoing. As a result, Southern Vectis buses are diverting locally.
Police have been notified of the incident.
UPDATE @ 20:15 – The fire has now been extinguished and the single crew are returning to station.
Park Road has re-opened to traffic in both directions.
Firefighters are kindly requesting that a blue flashing cone light, which was taken from the road whilst firefighting efforts were underway, is returned to Ryde Fire Station.
