Heavy rainfall overnight has led to a small landslip on the main road between Rookley and Niton. Island Roads has been forced to close Niton Road this morning (Sunday) as a result of debris spreading across the carriageway. The embankment collapse has sent earth into the middle of the road, blocking the rural route. The road closure is in force in both directions between Harts Lane and the Chequers Inn whilst assessments are carried out and clearance works undertaken. Access to the Chequers Inn pub is via Chequers Inn Road. UPDATE – The landowner has successfully cleared the debris from the carriageway, enabling Island Roads to reopen Niton Road.
