Lake Parish Council is celebrating being awarded Loo of the Year awards for their New Road and Lake Cliff Gardens Public Conveniences, following mystery shopper visits and inspections.
The Parish Council installed new accessible, family-friendly toilets in response to public consultations and worked with local stakeholders to ensure added value, such as CCTV and the proposed community project at Lake New Road.
Councillor Paul Brading said:
“As a small Parish with limited resources, Councillors were committed to ensuring these long-term investments benefitted residents and visitors, and fitted in with the Bay Place Plan objectives.
“This national award is prestigious recognition of the difficult decisions that had to be made by Lake Parish Council, and we are committed to maintaining high standards within the conflicting and increasing demands on the Budget”.
The British Toilet Association Awards, for Service Provision in partnership with Danfo, are presented to organisations with high standards of hygiene and cleanliness for public washroom facilities, with ongoing monitoring and maintenance.
Lake have invested over £500,000 in New Road, Lake Cliff Gardens and the Slipway Beach Toilets, in response to local demand and plan further budgetary provision for service, and maintenance, contracts in 2026.

Lake must be good at something
Lol
Shame it’s a traffic hotspot for traffic jams.
Thatd surprising because… The card machine on new road doesn’t work.. and neither does the light in the middle loo
Perhaps “Enough is Enough” could become a Mystery Shitter, sorry SHOPPER for public loos? It would save him paying 10 bob or as he previously stated, “rather piss and shit myself”
I wouldn’t pay the extortionate criminal toilet
charges the island charges it’s residents and tourists.
Cheaper to wear a nappy or p*ss in a bush.
Really? Where do you buy such large, cheap nappies or do you wash and dry them?
As for peeing in bushes…you do know there’s a law against that don’t you?
There is a law against speeding, driving whilst using
mobile phones, parking on Double Yellow Lines
etc etc
BUT THERE IS NO ONE TO POLICE THE SO CALLED
RULES!
Fortunately pubs have toilets which are free of
charge.
That’s good to hear and congrats! It would be great now to have a plan to get the cliff path open again between Winchester House and Lake Cliff Gardens. It can be achieved if the will is there. Also it would be great to look smart when you’re having your pic taken. It’s a sign of respect to your audience!
