A man has been arrested and a knuckleduster seized following a serious daylight assault in the heart of Carisbrooke earlier this afternoon (Thursday).
At around 14:00, Police were flagged down in Carisbrooke and alerted to an assault which had taken place on nearby Carisbrooke Road.
Officers conducted enquiries and a search of the surrounding area and arrested a 21-year-old man in Victoria Recreation Ground on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon – namely a knuckleduster.
A footpath between Wellington Road and Recreation Ground Road was cordoned off whilst officers sought to find the weapon. After around 45 minutes of searching, and with the help of a police dog, the offensive weapon was bagged and seized.
Parents of pupils at Carisbrooke C of E Primary School were sent a message from the school just before pick-up time urging them to steer clear of the path to allow officers to ‘preserve the scene’.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that the male remains in custody at this time.
