Wholetime and retained firefighters are in attendance at a flat fire on a residential estate in Ryde tonight (Sunday).
It was just before 21:20 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to a reported fire in a first floor flat at Amherst Place, off Marlborough Road in Elmfield.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke issuing from the kitchen and a strong smell of burnt foodstuffs evident.
Thankfully, the situation has been swiftly brought under control – with no need for an evacuation of the 3-storey block of flats.
Positive pressure ventilation is currently being utilised to rid lingering smoke from the communal areas.
2 appliances from nearby Ryde Fire Station remain on scene, with access to Amherst Place and Amherst Mews currently blocked.
