The Hollywood writers and actors strikes are being blamed for a delay in the sale of Kingston Marine Park in East Cowes – but things are progressing and a planning application is due to be submitted within weeks. It was in November 2022 that plans were first unveiled to build a new television and film studio on the banks of the River Medina on 16 acres of land known as Kingston Marine Park. But 18 months on, the sale of the land by the Isle of Wight Council to Medina Studios Ltd. has still not gone through… It’s been 8 months since the last update on the grand scheme when County Hall said that the sale was still progressing and that the delivery of the project was a ‘key priority’. Now, it has been confirmed that negotiations are continuing with hopes that final terms will be agreed and contracts exchanged ‘imminently’. Medina Studios is set to submit a planning application to the local authority this Summer, which is expected to include plans for 4 sound stages, production workshops, offices and other related facilities. Up to 1,000 new jobs could be created if the idea ever gets off the ground. The exact issues currently in negotiation remain confidential, but it is said that last year’s Hollywood writers and actors strikes, the first since 1960, completely shut down the industry for almost a year and as a consequence, progress on the Kingston plans was delayed. Duncan Heath, David Godfrey and Neil Blewett, who all have experience in the film and TV sectors, are behind the proposals.

Think we need to be working on building a swing bridge of sorts from East to West rather than filming a Western along the river..
If it’s built upriver from Kingston, it may not need to be a swing bridge. Nothin higher then about 10m air draft can go up due to the depth of water.
No doubt another cheap sell off of our water front land by IWC. Like they did with the car park on Ventnor Eastern Esplanade, then allowed the company who purchased that land to extend its sprawl by giving them more land. IWC were approached by a kayaking club re a parcel of land at the end of Cheetah Marines site. The club applied for planning permission for a store. Mr Strevens read about the application, called his mate in the council & within weeks the land was his. Fencing was realigned was being used to store junk within weeks. Same thing happened with the car park in Ventnor industrial estate!!
“Up to 1,000 new jobs could be created if the idea ever gets off the ground.”
Yeah right. Ten years from now, they’ll be saying the same.
‘Up to’ means 0-1,000
I sincerely hope that IW Council does not give away this prime site to a £100, 2-year-old outfit with no accounts and no capital, whose owner/directors have several failed comjpanies behind them.
This incompetent council, usually fails to get good value on any deal. More likely housing and flats.
Any news on the new! football ground?
I am surprised they are not filming Fast and Furious on the island
with all the speeding Numpty’s who live on the Island.
Likely a forward thinking move, the land will be leased, then, once the certain to fail film business flounders and sinks, the land will be ‘brown field’ and so easy for the council to then build masses of breeding hutches to fill with fifty shades, but not of grey, to please both the Labour Gov and to engorge the revenue from c. tax for the IW council to take higher salaries, pensions, expenses and car pool from.
Watch and see.
You should have voted Reform, too late now.
Karen only the Deformed voted Reform, that is why we
are now left with a Starmer led Labour Party who I
wouldn’t trust with my Grandmother, and she sadly passed away
nearly 50 years ago!
Wait until the Labour budget, we will be taxed to the hilt.
“Too Fat, Too Foolish” would be more appropriate for the island version.
Plus full of Tatts
Perfect time to get a swing Bride put across East and West Cowes.
It will save money in the long run and do something positive for the Islanders.
A ‘swinging bride’ would definitely something positive for islanders!
