Little more than a month after being released from prison, prolific local thief Daniel Kilshaw is to spend the next 8 weeks behind bars. Kilshaw, 42, of Howard House on Barton Road in Newport, admitted 2x theft from a shop when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Tuesday). Prosecuting, Liz Miller told the court that on 15th December 2023, at around 14:00, Kilshaw was seen leaving the Sports Direct store on South Street in Newport with some items of clothing in his hand. As he walked out of the store the alarm went off and he was approached by a member of staff who demanded the items back. Kilshaw made no attempts to hand back the goods and instead ran off into Newport Town Centre. The court heard how employees at the retail store recognised Kilshaw, when they confronted him, from a local shopwatch group. A total of £286 worth of goods was taken from the store with none of the items recovered. After being arrested by Police, Kilshaw was told he wasn’t allowed to enter the Sports Direct store. However, just over 3-weeks later, on 6th January, the 42-year-old – with 28 previous theft offences on his record – returned to Sports Direct, this time heading for the Hugo Boss section. Having taken a jacket and hoodie from the rails, Kilshaw stuffed the items down his trousers before leaving the store and making no attempt to pay for them. As was the case in December, he was challenged by staff outside and this time dropped the goods on the pavement before running away. Kilshaw has appeared on Island Echo numerous times before, most recently back in October 2023 when he was handed 8 weeks in prison after he was found guilty of further theft offences. Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client was on licence until 12th February and that he knew he was going to be recalled to prison no matter the outcome of today’s hearing. He added that Kilshaw – who he described as a ‘model prisoner’ when he was inside – had stated that he committed the offences because he wanted to go back to prison. Magistrates handed Kilshaw an 8-week prison sentence. He was ordered to pay compensation of £286 to Sports Direct.

I thought it was counted as burglary if he was previously banned from the establishment.
Kilshaw, 42 Needs to grow up and get a job or just jail him for life or he will continue to be a drain on society until he dies
Jailing him for life will definitely make him a drain on society until he dies.
He’s robbed me personally but still not exactly a life sentence case drama queen lol
The story says He had stated that he committed the offences because he wanted to go back to prison.
In what world do these people live?
He has a choice to be outside in the fresh air and be able to walk around and visit friends and family, get free money from the government, live in a free house/flat, get free council tax and rent paid.
Or sit in a 10×10 cell and his every move watched by guards and have to share a shower with violent men.
What a strange choice of life.
If I was the judge I would give him hard labour because gaol sounds too cushy
I not defending the scum bag but selfrightious people should shut up
Nobody is being self righteous here, normal people are living normal lives with all of the hardships associated with it.
A lot of people don’t get free money, a free house, free rent and council tax, but understandably some people do and they make the best of it. They don’t go out stealing from shops knowing that it is a breach of their release terms because they want to go back to gaol.
Nobody ~ self righteous or not ~ should want to go to gaol.
Gaol should be a punishment, not entertaining like Butlins. Three square meals a day, free TV and electric, no TV licence to pay, no rent to pay, no council tax to pay, no shopping to buy, cheap alcohol, drugs, access to a hidden mobile phone, free water, group shower, it’s wrong.
Well as he now has free housing and accommodation in HMP cushy. Let some hard working deserving person have the place in Howard house
Lol smaller cells in there
I agree and he’s run out of friends n family due to his behaviour even hostels wont have him so yeah he dont care atm I guess. These judgemental silver spooners don’t know what its like to have nowhere and nothing. Ive been there but when i was in same boat he stole from his own n he wont do that inside coz he knows what will happen plus he’ll just snitch as he does if ya know ya know!!!
Why ?, give him one more warning,if offends again send off to Rawanda. What with the cost of stuff stealing, police and CPS,legal aid and prison etc you are talking many thousands pounds – could be better spent on honest struggling low income families/children and elderly many going hungry and without warmth. Kilshaw gets 3 meals a day, central heating, showers, laundry etc.
He added that Kilshaw – who he described as a ‘model prisoner’ when he’s inside – had stated that he committed the offences because he wanted to go back to prison
..
clearly is a model prisoner because there are no shops to steal from and as for committing offences to go back to prison, that just proves that he is a weak, pathetic individual who is too lazy to take care of himself.
What a waste of oxygen. Absolutely no hope.
The fact that he wanted to go back to prison shows he has some severe mental issues and they are unlikely to be fixed in prison. Should be in the looney bin.
I knew a very nice chap who couldn’t cope outside the prison system. There was too much choice & he couldn’t manage everyday life. He committed another petty offence to go back inside. How sad
Only thing he has between his legs is stolen goods he robbed my purse few years back and used my contactless card in three shops. Model prisoner I bet he licks everyones butt in there the scrawny lil junkie!
Best place for the window licker
