Although the fried chicken brand will not currently confirm the location of the second store, Island Echo understands a drive-thru restaurant is planned to open at Merrie Gardens in Lake beside the recently opened Premier Inn hotel.
A spokesperson for KFC has told to Island Echo:
“We’d love to open another restaurant on the Isle of Wight for our fans to enjoy. It’s early days at the moment, but we are on the lookout for a suitable location and hope to have some good news in the future”.
Employment for the store has already begun and it is understood that the building work will get underway as soon as this year, subject to planning permission.
It is thought that KFC is just a small part of much bigger plans for Merrie Gardens, described as ‘the biggest, prime development for local and tourist products and services on the Isle of Wight for a long time’.
KFC currently operate just one store on the Island at Furlongs, Newport. A second store in Union Street, Ryde closed back in December 2012.
