A crash between 2 vehicles on a crossroad junction in Newport has led to the closure of the High Street tonight (Tuesday). Police were called to the scene at the junction of High Street and St James Street at around 21:00 as a result of 2 cars colliding at the traffic light controlled junction. An Audi Q7 has sustained front end damage in the smash, which has set the vehicle’s airbags off. A 2nd car has also sustained damage. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have checked over those involved in the crash, with only minor injuries reported. Both vehicles have now been recovered, but the road remains closed due to a spillage on the carriageway. Island Roads has been called to the scene to clear the fluids and debris. The road is expected to reopen soon after. St James’ Street is currently closed in both directions between Lugley Street and Pyle Street. All traffic heading down High Street is being diverted left into Lower St James’ Street. Officers are looking into whether any of the vehicles passed a red light.
