Well-known offender Nicky Dickinson, who committed a string of burglaries and other serious offences earlier this year, has seen his sentencing delayed, with a judge considering an alternative to an immediate prison sentence.
Dickinson appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court earlier this week (Tuesday) for sentencing.
The 41-year-old, of Barton Road previously admitted 14 offences, including burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, driving whilst disqualified, theft from a shop and possession of cocaine.
He hit the headlines back in May when he stole £100s from a pair of laundrettes in Newport. On 23rd May, he also stole £10,000 worth of tobacco and cigarettes from Ultra Stores on Clarendon Road, Newport.
Later that day he broke into a container in Wootton and stole a high‑powered air rifle, raided The Little Cow Shed farm shop in Havenstreet, and attempted to break into Sandown Jewellers. Dickinson has been at HMP Isle of Wight on remand for the last 6 months.
Despite a pre-sentence report being compiled for the hearing, the case was pushed back into the New Year.
Judge Sawyer admitted that the offending was serious enough for a significant custodial sentence but that the progress Dickinson had made whilst on remand, was positive. He said he was prepared to look at suspending the prison sentence if the 41-year-old was to engage fully with a drug rehabilitation requirement assessment.
The case was adjourned until the 23rd January when Dickinson will appear via video link at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Dickinson was remanded in custody until that date.

Okay so what about the victims in all this are their views taken into account? Most probably not. He’s only behaving because he has that potential sentence hanging over him.
Shame he hadn’t written a naughty tweet, he’d of got prison straight away.
Who says crime doesn’t pay. It’s a shame our justice system seems to favour criminals.
The business owners and staff being threatened, must be distraught.
The judge!!, doesn’t seem to care about them.
