Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club hosted their annual joint Captain’s Day and raised £788 pounds for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
On Sunday 7th August, 29 teams took to the fairways for the annual Joint Captains’ Am-Am competition.
It was a competition with a twist as, before play, every team was given a yellow ball to be used by each team member on specific holes. If, when using the yellow ball that player scored, they could double their points. Also, on all par 3s there were 2 pin positions, 1 harder than the other. Players were invited pre-play to take up the challenge of playing to the harder pin to gain extra points. Consequently scoring was high.
The best all-male team was Sam Cornwell, Chris Cornwell, Steve Cutter and Mark Taskas with 150 points.
The best-mixed team comprised Bev Whorwood, Darren Wood, June McLucas and Ashley McLucas scoring 151 points, and the best ladies’ team and overall winners with a score of 152 points were Debbie Berry, Lorrie Hawkins, Lyn Guy and Amanda Gould.
All proceeds are going to the Captains’ charity, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
