Over 100 jobs will be created if proposals to expand a window and door manufacturer’s operations near the Isle of Wight’s county town are given the go-ahead.
Joedan Windows is seeking planning consent to extend an existing commercial building and build a new one at the former Snows site on Forest Road, outside Newport.
The company announced the purchase of the building at the beginning of this year, as previously reported by Island Echo.
The plans will deliver significant economic benefits and allow the company to grow its Island operations from 42 employees to around 150 within three years, a statement from the applicant’s agent, BCM Wilson Hill, says.
A total of 1,342 square metres of floorspace is proposed at the vacant site which has in the past been home to car showrooms, repair workshops, MOT facilities, rental operations and two industrial buildings.
It says:
“The proposal will deliver a consolidated and modern employment site to support the expansion of Joedan Windows, a long-established manufacturer of windows and doors.
“The development will support local employment, apprenticeships and skills development, and represents inward investment in a sustainable rural location.
“The use is appropriate to the site’s established employment character and aligns with adopted and emerging development plan policies which seek to protect and grow employment land and support sustainable economic growth.”
County Hall’s public consultation on application 26/00289/FUL closes on 14th April and a decision is due on 8th June.

Joedan must be getting ready for all the new builds.
I doubt in todays economic climate people will be
changing their windows unless they have too!
