Cowes Sports reached the 3rd round of the Velocity Wessex League Cup by beating Blackfield & Langley by the best of 5 goals at Gang Warily this evening thanks to a brace from young winger Jared Tout Walters.
The Yachtsmen began the game brightly with George Carter-Knight beating 2 Blackfield players before tamely shooting at the home keeper, Jared Tout-Walters blasting the ball over the crossbar and Fin Phillips dispatching the ball narrowly wide.
Fin Phillips gave Cowes the lead in the 13th minute by calmly converting a penalty given for handball (0-1).
The Wessex Division 1 side side fought back with Ashton Goodger sending an effort narrowly wide, Ewang Derick stinging the hands of Cowes keeper Ed Hatt and Joe Burton striking the upright.
Jared Tout-Walters then doubled the away side’s lead in the 34th minute by hitting the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal after being set up by George Colson (0-2).

The home side proved more of a threat in the 2nd half. Blackfield pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute through Richard Backary (1-2). 6 minutes later, Joe Burton equalised for Blackfield with a 25-yard effort (2-2).
The Yachtsmen came close to restoring their lead in the 65th minute when Tout-Walters struck the upright. However, their chances of taking something from the tie seemed to have all but disappeared when influential midfielder Jordan Cook was sinbinned in the 77th minute.
Cowes won the tie shortly after Cook returned to the pitch 2 minutes from the end of full time. Fin Phillips played Tout-Walters through, for the youngster to shoot across the keeper and into the goal to put the Island side into the next round of the cup (2-3).
