A man has been jailed for attempting to burgle homes on the Isle of Wight.
In the early hours of 20th October 2024, 36-year-old Jake Dunkling attempted to open the doors of addresses in Tennyson Road and Bridge Road in Cowes.
In a separate string of incidents, early morning on 3rd August this year, Dunkling tried to access homes in Godric Road and Dormouse Drive in Newport.
During this time, he caused damage to a gate and also tried to gain access to a car parked in Dormouse Drive.
Dunkling, of Carisbrooke High Street, was charged with 9 counts of attempted burglary, and further charges of criminal damage and vehicle interference.
He admitted all the offences, and was jailed for 18 months when he appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Wednesday 10th December.
PC Indie Hart said:
“Jake Dunkling made a number of brazen attempts to gain entry to people’s homes on the Isle of Wight. He tried front door handles and even climbed over fences into gardens to try back doors.
“Fortunately, the doors were locked. Some homeowners became aware of Dunkling and even challenged him through their doorbell cameras.
“Dunkling will now spend time in prison as a result of these actions, and we urge members of the public to continue to report suspicious individuals in their neighbourhood to police.”

Good work!
And he has the right to vote.
Maybe we should limit it to people with 125+ IQ
Just thinking out aloud
You’re ruling yourself out then!
For starters he’s focused on his next hit not what corrupt council to vote for…this man clearly does not use his vote! He has spent the last 20 years of his life in and out of jail, he knows exactly how to use the system and what ‘small’ crimes to commit to get him inside long enough for a bed, 3 meals a day and a roof over his head, he will one million percent re offend for the rest of his life and our ridiculous system will carry on handing out these pathetic sentences, but then can we really jail someone for life for these recent crimes, is day no unfortunately. This is the same man that sliced his leg open Robbing the jewelry store in Newport and nearly killed himself!
And there’s also many of people with a normal IQ who voted labour in, so that wouldn’t work would it.
yeah, but at least it would stop most of the Reform voters…
attempted burglary – Means he wasn’t very good at it. Should have been sentenced to longer for being a failure at being a burglar
Got off lightly. Judges!, normally punish with a severe telling off and potentially two minutes on the naughty step. Suspended of course.
Dirty horrible man who chooses this lifestyle due to his addictions, it’s just disgusting, everything that’s broken about Britain today, turn your life around, have some pride & dignity or just lie in the gutter where you probably belong looser.
The state of it..like someone said have some pride in yourself do something with your life like we all do instead of the state reliance.
He looks like he’s waiting for a bus but he ain’t sure which way it’s coming from
Scum like this have never paid a penny into the country and never will. This government are trying to cut payments to pensioners who have paid in all their lives. Get some bloody respect, principles and priorities sorted for those who should be more valued.
Snorting, swilling, thieving low life waste of space dross, don’t deserve any values
