A powercut affecting 808 homes across 65 postcode areas on the northern boundary of Newport, including Forest Road, Parkhurst and St Cross Business Park tonight (Sunday).
Power was lost at 23:21 and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is working to restore supply and has set an estimated restoration time of 04:30 Monday morning.
In addition, there are a few localised areas further west, including Porchfield and Brook.
In a statement, SSEN confirmed the unplanned outage and apologized for the inconvenience caused to customers in the affected areas.
“We’re aware of a power cut in the area shown, affecting 808 homes. This unplanned fault is affecting the local area, and it’s likely several streets in the area are affected by the same power cut,”
The power cut has been traced to a fault in SSEN’s underground network, which is the most common type of fault the company encounters.
SSEN stated that in most cases, the fault can be resolved by simply replacing a fuse at the local substation. However, should the fault prove to be more severe, they have acknowledged that it may take longer to repair. If this happens, customers will be kept informed for Power Track.
SSEN reassured customers that engineers are already on-site and working hard to restore power as soon as possible. The company is aiming to have electricity back on by 04:30, though it is prepared to provide updates if any delays occur.
For those seeking further information or assistance, SSEN has urged affected customers to reach out via WhatsApp or by calling 105, quoting the reference ‘QS2702.’
SSEN thanked customers for their understanding and patience as engineers continue their efforts to resolve the situation.
