The Isle of Wight’s Brandon Robinson-Thompson ended Day 1 of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in joint top position yesterday (Thursday).
The golf professional shot 66 in windy conditions at the Doha Golf Club to tie with Dane Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen at the top of the leader board on the first day of the tournament.
Brandon caught Neergaard-Petersen at the summit late in the afternoon after draining his 60-foot birdie putt on the 8th – his penultimate hole.
This is the 2nd time Robinson Thompson has led a DP World Tour event – last week he smashed the course record with an opening 61 in Bahrain to take the lead in that tournament.
Italy’s Andrea Pavan and England’s Sam Bairstow were in a tie for 3rd at Doha, 1 shot behind the co-leaders after shooting 67s.
He is used to the wind being a Freshwater member. End of day 2 and leads by 2 shots.
