The Isle of Wight Girls Football League is calling for more young players to join its newly introduced Under-9s age group, providing opportunity for girls aged 7-9 to get involved in the sport.
The league, which has grown to include around 270 players aged between 7 and 16, is set to introduce a new format next season. Instead of the traditional monthly tournaments, teams will now compete in weekly or fortnightly matches, offering more consistent playing opportunities for the girls.
Organisers are now seeking additional players in the U9 category (school years 2, 3, and 4) to help expand the number of teams participating. Girls interested in joining are encouraged to reach out to their local clubs, including:
- Brading
- Cowes
- Ryde Saints
- Ventnor
- Sandown
- Vectis
- Newport
