Residents, businesses and stakeholders across the Isle of Wight are being encouraged to share their views on proposed changes to the Island Planning Strategy (IPS) as part of a 6-week public consultation.
The consultation is now open and will run until 17:00 on Monday 12th January 2026. During this time, Islanders can review the suggested amendments and submit their comments.
All consultation documents, along with full details of the proposed changes, are available online at https://www.iow.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/planning/local-plan/draft-island-planning-strategy/.
The website also provides guidance on how to respond, including easy-to-use online comment forms that can be completed online or downloaded for printing.
Comments should only be on the proposed changes to the IPS, and any comments that go beyond these have not been asked for by the planning inspectors.
There are 3 ways to respond:
Online: Use the dedicated comment forms for each proposed change.
Email: Complete a form and send it to [email protected]
Post: Write to Planning Policy, Planning Services, Seaclose Office, Fairlee Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 2QS.
For those who prefer paper copies, consultation documents and forms can be viewed at County Hall and Seaclose Office receptions during office hours. Copies are also available in all public libraries across the Island.

And will anyone take any notice of our views?
How many times have people objected to planning applications with material considerations and they are still waved through?
Is this the same startegy that will be consigned to the bin the moment we get an elected mainland mayor and authority.
I wonder how many persons ignore planning rules.
