4 Isle of Wight friends are set to put their strength and stamina to the ultimate test when they take on HYROX London 2025 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support later this year.
Lauren Hamer together with best friend Meg – described as best friends with a shared love for pushing limits, lifting heavy and running hard – will head to the capital in December to compete in what’s billed as the world’s ultimate fitness race. They will be joined by Sean and his brother Adam.
HYROX combines endurance running with functional workouts in a gruelling format that sees participants run 1 kilometre followed by 1 workout station, repeated 8 times in succession. The event attracts athletes from across the globe, all vying to complete the course as quickly as possible.
For the Island group it’s not just about fitness – it’s about making a difference. They’ve set themselves a fundraising target of £400 for Macmillan Cancer Support, a sum that could fund the charity’s Support Line for a full hour.
Lauren says:
“Macmillan are a charity close to our hearts. Each one of us have had people close to us battle with cancer in the past and present. The team at Macmillan do so much for those with cancer but also support their families too, so we’d like to give back by taking on the Hydrox.
“We all started with a good level of fitness but have never taken on something like this before. It’s been challenging but rewarding and fun throughout the preparation for the day, and every ache is worth it for Macmillan.”
Every pound raised will help Macmillan continue providing essential emotional, practical and financial support to those affected by cancer.
Donations towards the team’s £400 goal can be made online via their fundraising page.
