Train services on the Island Line have been suspended this afternoon (Thursday) due to a trespass incident on the railway tracks. Service between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin was abruptly halted at around 16:15 following news that a trespasser was on the line and is refusing to move. It is unclear where along the line they are located. It is unclear as to when the incident will be resolved and the line will be clear once again. Power to the track has been switched off whilst the incident is dealt with. Tickets can be used to travel on Southern Vectis routes 2 & 3 between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin with a minibus in place to run between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade A spokesperson for Island Line has said:
“For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point. “We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.”
UPDATE @ 17:15 – It has been established that the incident is related to a concern for welfare with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary called to the scene at Ryde Esplanade. No time has been given for when service is expected to resume.

Probably wasn’t expecting to see any trains running
Probably on drugs…
What on earth is this latest excuse about???
Someone is on the track
Who was it, the incredible Hulk?
Since Whitecroft closed this ‘un’ care in the community is costing us c.tax payers a fortune in having all the mental people cared for in individual homes with helper and NHS staff paid a fortune to visit them at their individual homes.
Bring back large purpose built asylums, it would also stop those faking mental illness being locked up with real mental people for a month or two whilst being assessed.
Get a grip! This island has no mental health services that are any good, I hope you never experience anything like this in your life, and if you do, I hope you have nobody, you ignorant twat!
Fine whoever is responsible heavily for causing an obstruction.
Old people wasting time money for everyone
