Island Echo will sponsor the Isle of Wight Challenge Cup competition this season (2022/23), it has been announced.
Entry to the Challenge Cup is limited to teams from Division 1 of the Isle of Wight Harwoods Renault Saturday League. The current holders are Division 1 champions Shanklin, who lifted the trophy after beating Whitecroft & Barton Sports 1-0 in last season’s final at the Peter Henry Ground in Brading.
Andrew Justice, Honorary Secretary of the Isle of Wight Divisional Football Association, said:
“We are delighted that Island Echo has agreed to sponsor the Challenge Cup for the 2022/23 season and hopefully for many seasons to come.”
“The competition will now be known as the Island Echo Challenge Cup.”
Darren Toogood, Editor/Publisher of Island Echo, has said:
“When the opportunity arose to sponsor the Challenge Cup this season I just had to say yes straight away. This is a great opportunity for us to financially support grassroots football on the Isle of Wight, as well as providing comprehensive coverage of one of the top competitions locally.
“Our reporting of sporting events across the Island – football in particular – is increasing and following successful coverage of the 2021/22 season, we are throwing more resources into 2022/23. This includes sponsoring a local Table Tennis competition too.
“I hope that this sponsorship with the Isle of Wight Divisional Football Association is the start of a long-term relationship between Island Echo and local football.”
