Businesses across the Isle of Wight in the retail, hospitality and leisure industries are to receive a one-off grant of between £4,000 and £9,000, it has been announced.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced the £4.6billion support package following last night’s announcement of a third national lockdown until at least February half-term.
The grants announced this morning are to help support businesses through the Spring period and are in addition to existing support measures.
A grant of £4,000 will be made available for businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or under; £6,000 for businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000 and £9,000 for businesses with a rateable value of over £51,000. This will be distributed via the Isle of Wight Council in due course.
In the first lockdown, all businesses eligible for Small Business Rate Relief received a grant of £10,000. No such support has been announced this time around.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has said:
“The new strain of the virus presents us all with a huge challenge – and whilst the vaccine is being rolled out, we have needed to tighten restrictions further.
“Throughout the pandemic we’ve taken swift action to protect lives and livelihoods and today we’re announcing a further cash injection to support businesses and jobs until the Spring.
“This will help businesses to get through the months ahead – and crucially it will help sustain jobs, so workers can be ready to return when they are able to reopen”.
A further £594million is also being made available for Local Authorities and the Devolved Administrations to support other businesses not eligible for the grants, that might be affected by the restrictions. Businesses across the Island will be able to apply to the Isle of Wight Council – details are expected to be released shortly.

All this talk of lockdown 2021 is making me feel nostalgic for the January lockdowns of 2017 and 2018 when we had similar death rates. Looking back now, it’s so hard to remember all those rules constraining our lives, isn’t it?

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”C.S.Lewis
My old boss used to tell me, “don’t give me problems, give me solutions”. Do you have a solution, or do you simply believe that there is no problem?
Yet they are still allowing flights to come into the UK from South Africa
who have a worrying strain.
Also a person cannot see their Mum, but their Mum could see them via viewing their house with an Estate Agent.
When Nick Ferrrai of LBC Mentioned this live on the Radio to Michael Gove
he was lost for words.
LIKE ALL THE TORIES, LOST FOR WORDS!
i cant see my mum in law unless i use the loop hole ill just take my toolbox.
What is it you want?
That old fashioned idea of freedom, with the risks entailed…not a nanny state or a totalitarian state. 🙂
Thats selfish given the circumstance.
clearly the plan on scaring people into doing what the nanny state wants, isnt working, so a new, more infectious strain must be created out of thin air to perlong the misery – who can actually prove there is another strain.
What about all the little business that aren’t rateable just the same as last time we don’t get anything
The plan is to kill off the private sector, then merge with super-conglomerates like Amazon, Google, Apple, and form the Nazi/Communist “utopian dream” once again.
Ask the Co uncil business leader, he has several private businesses, and no doubt has taken his share of the funds, so knows the ropes very, very well. W W hittle is the one to ask for.
Idiot .
While this Chinese Voirus has crippled aconomy’s around the world, the Chinese are laughing all the way to the banks.
There aconomy is thriving yet it seems the world is powerless to do anything about it, if the west don’t wake-up and stop investing business into that dictatorship, our kids generation will pay the price.
I personally think the communist party of China deliberately created this Voirus in a lab, thay blame it on wet markets, but wet markets have been around for hundreds of year without covid..
I feel sorry for the Chinese people, however they need to get rid of that communist dictatorship..
Did you see their massive New Year Parties (more freedom than us !)…and then ours ????
Why do you think they are having massive [email protected].
Wake-up
Two points about China. Their Gov are not weak like here, with solicitors awaiting a complaint to then ‘sue’ the Gov. For there, IF you broke lockdown rules, you would be physically beaten, no matter what your reason or excuse.
Here, the press would ‘leap’ upon anyone getting even ‘shouted at’ for breaking lockdown, saying how distressed they now are, can’t sleep, public humiliation etc etc.
China haven’t had a huge influx of those who think rules and laws don’t apply to them, so unlike here, there indigenous population are more respectful of one another.
The Chinese people are lovely people, but, as you say their Government does as it pleases as it can’t be voted out.
Sadly, there’s a massive amount of far left voters that would love this country to live in a country just like China..
We must never alow them to win…
Nutter
