An Isle of Wight athletics track has been brought back to its former glory thanks to a £5,000 grant from England Athletics.
The Isle of Wight Athletic Club won the grant following an inspection of the track in Sandown. Recommendations had been made during the inspection that the track should be cleaned in order to make it suitable for competition.
The £5,000 grant, along with extra funds contributed by the Isle of Wight Athletics Club and Ryde Harriers running group, allowed England Athletics accredited provider, Playdeck, to undertake the cleaning and refurbishment works.
Cross-Solent operator, Wightlink, also contributed by donating free passage for the Playdeck team and their equipment to travel to the Island.
The work has left the track in a much more suitable condition for competition and practice.

Shame the Isle of Wight council didn’t step in and help.
Some would disagree better a charity pays for others ‘choice’ of lesuire than more on our council tax.
Ryde Harriers, the clickiest club on the island, they’ll probably insist on exclusive access now!
