coastguardlogoA drunk man was safely led ashore at Totland Bay earlier this evening (Sunday) thanks to the efforts of Coastguard Teams and volunteer lifeboat crewman. 

Yarmouth RNLI All Weather Lifeboat was tasked alongside The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team to the Totland Bay area shortly after 19:30, following reports of a man swimming out to sea whilst fully dressed.

With concerns for the man’s safety, the volunteer crews raced to the scene to discover the gentleman shouting abuse and swimming around.

A Y-Boat was deployed from Yarmouth Lifeboat to guide the man towards the shore where he was met by Coastguard Rescue Operatives around 30m out to sea. The heavily intoxicated male was then met by Police and Ambulance crews once back on solid ground.

Emergency services were stood down less than an hour after the concerns were raised.
