An inquest has been opened into the death of a 72-year-old woman who collided with a double-decker bus back in June.
Marilyn Sheila Burkitt was driving on the wrong side of the road when she hit a Route 3 Southern Vectis bus on Church Road, Shanklin – the main thoroughfare between Shanklin and Ventnor.
The tragic incident occurred on 16th June, as previously recorded by Island Echo.
Despite the best efforts of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and members of the public attempting CPR, she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 19:00.
The cause of death has been given as severe multiple injuries caused by a road traffic collision.
HM Senior Coroner Caroline Sumeray has provisionally adjourned the inquest until 15th May 2026.
