Independent Arts has launched its Creatively Connected Christmas campaign in a bid to raise £8,000 to keep its Newport Creative Hub open this winter.
Island-based creative health charity Independent Arts has supported Islanders’ wellbeing through creativity for more than 35 years, offering singing groups, arts workshops and research-backed programmes that help reduce loneliness and improve quality of life.
At the centre of this work is the Creative Hub in Newport, which is open 6 days a week and provides a warm, friendly space where people can drop in, meet others and take part in simple creative activities. For many, it is described as a vital lifeline.
This year’s Christmas campaign also includes a festive community project inspired by The Jolly Christmas Postman. The Hub’s Christmas window encourages visitors to write a card for someone living in a local care home who may otherwise feel lonely or without family this Christmas. Cards can be dropped off at the Hub and will be hand-delivered before the festive weekend.
Independent Arts has confirmed that its Creative Hub will open for drop-in sessions on 29th, 30th and 31st December, between 10:00 and 14:00, offering a warm space for creative activities, companionship and wellbeing support.
Matt Hitt, Creative Programmes and Fundraising Manager, said:
“We see every day how creativity transforms lives. For some, our Creative Hub is more than a building – it’s a lifeline. With the community’s support, we can keep that lifeline open and continue helping Islanders live well through everyday creativity.”
Supporters can also boost their donation through GiveMatch, a scheme that can double – or even triple – contributions at no extra cost. After donating through Independent Arts’ GiveMatch page, supporters receive a referral link; if 2 people donate via that link, the original donation is doubled.
