The inaugural Sunset Boulevard drive-in movie event has been hailed a success as hundreds turned up to enjoy the hit classic ‘Grease’ at a sell out screening last night (Friday).
At just £12.50 per car (for up to 5 people!) the event sold out weeks ago, much to the disappointment of late comers. Hundreds of cars arrived at Amazon World in Newchurch for the first of three movies this weekend with much excitement for the Island’s first drive-in cinema.
Crowds got up on their feet and boogied to the musical’s catchy songs and enjoyed an all American experience with popcorn, candy floss and penny sweets for sale with roaming attendants plus hot food available from the on-site cafe.
The weather held out with the sun shining down, adding to the wonderful atmosphere experienced by all. Visitors honked their car horns in appreciation at the end of the movie.
Tonight sees the showing of Top Gun, with Dirty Dancing being screened on Sunday. The hot weather is set to continue across the weekend meaning a positive outlook for those lucky enough to have tickets for the next two events. It is hoped more drive-in cinema screening will be organised in the future.
A collection for Joe Ellis was organised with members of the public giving generously.
