UPDATED: Home Office Immigration officers are this evening (Tuesday) in attendance at St James’ Street in Newport, believed to be searching a takeaway premises.
It has been confirmed that officers are currently involved in an ongoing operation and are present at an address in Newport.
UPDATED @ 21:30 – Seven officers in total visited The Kebab House in Newport at 16:30 this evening, however it has been confirmed that no arrests were made.
The owner of the business, who is said to be abroad at current, has been requested to provide proof that employees have the right to work in the United Kingdom. A Notice of Potential Liability has been issued.
Further reports received by Island Echo earlier this evening suggested an Indian takeaway in Ventnor had also been targeted by the Home Office.It has been confirmed that a warrant was executed, however no arrests have been made and no further action is to be taken. This is also true of a takeaway in East Cowes.
