UPDATED: The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice across the Isle of Wight between 16:00 today (Monday) and overnight into tomorrow morning.
Forecasters say that temperatures are likely to fall rapidly below freezing late this afternoon. This will lead to icy stretches, particularly where snow melt has occurred during the day, or where a mix of rain and snow has fallen – as it has on the Island.
There will probably be icy stretches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths with some injuries possible from slips and falls.
The warning is in force from 16:00 this afternoon until 11:00 on Tuesday.
UPDATE @ 13:00 – Island Roads have confirmed that gritters will be treating the Island’s road network from 18:00.
More information on the gritting routes can be found at www.islandecho.co.uk/gritting-routes.
