HUNGRY PERFORMING ARTIST CAUGHT DRINK DRIVING ON LATE NIGHT JAUNT TO MCDONALD’S

A 37-year-old performing artist has been banned from the roads for 12 months after being caught drink driving whilst heading for a late night snack at McDonald’s in Ryde.

Kristopher Madden, of Grange Court in Bristol, was stopped by Police on Brading Downs Road on 29th October after officers witnessed his erratic driving; crossing over the central white line, speeding and hitting the kerb. He failed a breathalyser at the roadside and was taken to the evidential machine in Newport, where he blew 40 – the starting point for prosecution.

Defending, Lee Peckham said his client was working on the Isle of Wight as a performing artist when he travelled into Newport for a drink. Whilst in the pub, he was bought a round of drinks by individuals who recognised him. Although he did not intend to drink and drive that night, Madden became hungry and decided to head for the 24-hour drive-thru at McDonald’s in Ryde.

Mr Peckham explained to Magistrates that his client travels across the country for his work and a driving ban would affect his income.

Magistrates handed Kristopher Madden a 12-month driving ban, fined him £307 and ordered him to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
