32-year-old Michael Hudson has pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter of 52-year-old Nick Medlin on Christmas Day.
Hudson appeared before Winchester Crown Court this morning (Monday) charged with manslaughter, a charge he denies.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Pier Street in Ventnor during the early hours of Christmas Day where they found Mr Medlin on the floor. Despite the best efforts of paramedics and Police, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
At an inquest opening earlier this month it was confirmed that Mr Medlin, a prison officer, died as a result of a head injury. It was said that he suffered a ‘single-punch blow’.
Hudson, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody by Judge Keith Cutler until a two-week trial at Winchester Crown Court on 26th June.
