Hovertravel has announced its support for the Steps to Remember Walk, a fundraising initiative in aid of Dementia UK Admiral Nurses on the Isle of Wight.
The Steps to Remember Walk invites participants to complete 70 miles, the equivalent of walking around the Isle of Wight coastline, in support of families affected by dementia.
Organisers say the challenge is designed as a journey of remembrance, reflection and community spirit. Participants can complete the distance in one go, spread the miles out over a period of time or take part virtually from any location. Every mile walked helps raise awareness and funds for Dementia UK’s specialist nursing service on the Isle of Wight.
Dementia UK is a specialist dementia nurse charity. Its highly trained nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide practical, emotional and clinical support to families living with all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Admiral Nurses work with families to ensure they are not facing dementia alone.
Everyone who signs up to the initiative will receive a Steps to Remember Passport. The passport enables participants to track their miles, log milestones and personal reflections, journal memories and access guidance and tips throughout their journey.
Passports can be collected from the Hovertravel terminal in Ryde. Participants are required to show their JustGiving page when collecting their passport.
The event is centred around the message ‘Your Pace, Your Place’, allowing supporters to take part in person or virtually, either individually or with friends and family. Walkers may choose to complete their miles along the Isle of Wight’s coastal paths, through local neighbourhoods or further afield.
Hovertravel is encouraging both residents and visitors to get involved, highlighting the physical and mental wellbeing benefits of walking alongside the opportunity to support a local cause.
Loretta Lale, Head of Marketing at Hovertravel, has said:
“The Steps to Remember Walk is a fantastic initiative and a wonderful way for our community to come together in support of Dementia UK Admiral Nurses on the Isle of Wight. It’s a great way to get your steps in while supporting a truly worthy local cause that makes a real difference to families facing dementia every day.”
Funds raised through the walk will contribute towards enabling Admiral Nurses to continue delivering specialist care and guidance to families when it is needed most.
Those wishing to take part can sign up via the Steps to Remember JustGiving page and begin their 70-mile challenge.
