Homes have been evacuated in the Leed Street area of Sandown this morning after a car collided with a wall, causing a LPG gas leak from the vehicle.
Emergency services are on the scene and have set up a 200m cordon, evacuating properties in the area. An inner cordon has also been put in place.
Island Echo understand a female driver of a red 4×4 got out of the vehicle to check her parking, however forgot to apply the handbrake fully, causing the vehicle to roll back into a nearby wall and lamp post.
Fire crews are using a water sprinkler system to dowse the vehicle, letting the gas escape.
UPDATE @ 12:30 – Residents have been allowed to return to their properties and the vehicle has been safely moved from the scene.
No persons have been injured in the incident.
