A historic South Wight farm – that was mentioned in the Doomsday Book – has come onto the market with BCM rural property specialists.
There has been a settlement at Week Farm since the Bronze Age. The Doomsday Book records the historic ‘Manor of Wica’ and up until the late Eighteen-hundreds, the farm was part of the famous Appuldurcombe Estate – the family seat of the Worsleys.
Week Farm was sold in 1851 as a farm with a ‘…good stone house …with splendid sea views’ and has been in the ownership of the vendors for the last half-century.
Week Farm comes with 370.9 acres of land, a substantial range of modern and traditional stone barns and a substantial Georgian farmhouse set in attractive grounds. The 6-bedroomed farmhouse sits in a secluded southerly facing position, with sweeping views across the south of the Island to the sea.
James Attrill, partner at BCM, commented:
“Week Farm is a rare find – anywhere in the UK. The history is fascinating, and the farm offers real privacy, looking out over the prettiest of Island views and the sea. The land and barns offer great scope for those wanting to enhance the estate further. It really is the complete package.
“Bringing Week to the market for the first time in 50 years is a privilege. We expect plenty of interest.”
Offered in 2 lots, Week Farm is guided at £4,395,000 for the whole.

Quick, build houses on it. And make sure the roads are not upgraded, no extra doctors and no extra police for the influx of benefit scroungers / junkies.
Or one could develop a golf course for the toffs,
whilst the rest of us starve.
Not to mention the immigrants! Oh hang on, you have covered them in the “scroungers” part.
I wont be retiring until I’m 71, and I will never get a good enough job to pay for that ugghh I was born wayyy too late
‘ great scope for those wanting to enhance the estate further ‘ in other words more houses, Hotel or estate if they can get it past the planners of course…. shouldn’t be a problem.
As all arrivals do so with no land, no home and almost all with no cash to buy a home, then it will be us funding the ruination of our beautiful Island by displaced people, coming here to escape those which no one wanted here in the first place.
We need a new Gov not Tory or Labour.
Yes a weak lilly livered conservative run council won’t uphold or consider the people they represent.
Wow fantastic location, be brilliant for a locally grown produce farm outlet. Interesting name: Although pronounced differently, the term Wicca is a modern derivation of the Old English word ƿiċċa, which referred to sorcerers in Anglo-Saxon England and has yielded the modern English word witch.
I’m glad you too have a knowledge of the past. This location must be purchased by someone who understands it, and show it the respect that it deserves.
In Anglo-Saxon, “wica” means “week” (Bosworth-Toller). No connection with the more recent “wicca”.
