A flood alert has been issued for the Eastern Yar and its tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge due to high river levels following 40mm of rainfall over the past 5 days.
Flooding is currently affecting low-lying land, roads, cycle tracks and footpaths close to the river.
In Sandown, Golf Links Road and Morton Common Road are known to be impacted. Ditches around Fort Holiday Park are also struggling to drain while river levels remain high.
River levels are now falling at Langbridge and Alverstone, while remaining stable in Sandown. Conditions are expected to improve over the coming days as levels gradually reduce.
The Environment Agency has said it is continuing to monitor rainfall and river conditions, and will ensure that the river is kept clear of any reported blockages.
Residents are being advised to prepare flood protection products if they have them in place. A further update is due by 10:00 on Thursday (11th December), or earlier if the situation changes.
