UPDATED: Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent is assisting the volunteer lifeboat crew of Yarmouth RNLI this morning (Monday) to airlift a patient from a boat in Newtown.
Emergency services were alerted to a person on board a boat suffering a medical episode at around 07:00 this morning, prompting Yarmouth RNLI’s all weather lifeboat to launch at 07:15 to the scene at Newtown Creek between Yarmouth and Cowes.
A medical evacuation is currently underway. It is expected that the patient will be flown to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.
UPDATE @ 08:40 – The patient, a 78-year-old woman, has been successfully winched into the helicopter from a small yacht and has been transferred to the QA hospital in Portsmouth.
