UPDATED: More than 20mm of rain and gusts of up to 50 mph are expected on the Isle of Wight tomorrow and into Saturday as the Met Office issue a double yellow weather warning.
Forecasters say an area of rain and strong to gale force winds is expected to cross much of southern England from midday Friday before clearing to the east by 09:00 Saturday morning.
Locally, forecasters say the wind will increase as the evening progresses and there is potential for tree damage, especially due to the unusual direction of the gusts.
UPDATE FRIDAY @ 10:00 – The Met Office have updated their weather warning with an increased likelihood of flooding and say the warning may yet be escalated to Amber – a more serious alert.
Up to 70mm of rain is now expected in some areas with winds gusting to 45 mph inland and around 55 mph along the coast.
The public should be aware of the potential for disruption particularly for those engaged in outdoor activities say the Met Office.
