More people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been protected from COVID-19 than anywhere else in the South East region, thanks to the hard work and commitment of teams working on the vaccination programme. The 2024 spring programme has now drawn to a close and locally more than 180,000 eligible people came forward to take up their offer of the vaccine. NHS Hampshire and the Isle of Wight delivered the 3rd highest number of vaccinations nationally compared to other NHS Integrated Care Boards. The uptake level in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight was 65.7% which was the highest across the South East and the 5th highest for population uptake across the country. Those eligible for the spring vaccination were:
- people aged 75 years and over
- residents of care homes for older adults
- adults and children aged six months and over who have a weakened immune system
Dr Matt Nisbet, Clinical Lead for the Covid Vaccination Programme at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight said:
“This phenomenal achievement could not have happened without a huge amount of hard work and collaboration between Primary Care Networks, community pharmacies and the COVID-19 vaccination programme team who glue all the bits of the system together. “Our new roving vaccination vehicle was also launched this spring which has helped us reach members of our local communities who may not have otherwise come forward. “I would like to thank all the teams across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight who have taken part in the campaign, which has led to the high levels of vaccination rates across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This will ultimately keep people and communities safe and healthy.”

Those eligible were able to get a vaccination from GP practices, pharmacies and pop-up and roving clinics.
Just out of interest I called about my COVID jab and got offered a jab the very next day put the phone down called my doctors about an appointment and they offered me an appointment over a month away seems they are all busy sticking needles in people

Your first statement says that you were ringing up to get the covid vaccine, and yet you’re complaining in your second statement because you can’t get to see a doctor because they’re too busy vaccinating people for covid.

Maybe read a scientific journal to get the real facts. There is actually a much higher incidence of heart problems among people who had the early variants of COVID-19. The incidence is much lower in the vaccinated.

It was not claimed to prevent transmission. The aim is to build up antibodies in our immune system and the multiple jabs both boost the antibodies and allow for adjustments in the formula to deal with emerging variations in the type of virus over time
