A woman who was found asleep on the floor with her belongings scattered around her was in possession of a kitchen knife, a court has heard.
Emma James, 41, of John Street in Ryde, admitted a single count of possession of a knife/bladed article in a public place when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday).
Crown Prosecutor Lauren McConnell told the court that on 16th August this year, at around 11:25, Police on patrol in Ryde came across James lying on the floor with her personal belongings scattered around her.
Officers approached her and searched her belongings, where they found a kitchen knife with a blade approximately 2-3inches in length.
The court heard how James has a total of 40 offences on her record.
Defending the 41-year-old, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client was homeless at the time and that she had various items of cutlery in her bag, but that they weren’t to be used as a weapon.
The case was adjourned until 5th December for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.
