A prolific offender with more than 150 offences on his record has admitted stealing ready meals and wine from supermarkets in East Cowes.
Bradley Sparshott, 34, of York Avenue in East Cowes, admitted 2 counts of theft from a shop when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (19th August).
Prosecutor, Lauren McConnell, told the court that on the 4th April, Sparshott entered The Co-op on York Avenue and picked up 2 ready meals before leaving the store without making any attempt to pay.
Then, a week later on the 13th April, he entered Waitrose on Well Road and picked up a single bottle of wine valued, again making no attempts to pay for the goods. The total value of the goods stolen on both occasions was £17.50.
Sparshott, a well-known local offender whose name has appeared on Island Echo numerous times, has a total of 155 offences on his record.
Defending Sparshott, Oscar Vincent, told the court that this was a low value theft and that his client had done well to keep out of trouble for a good few years before his most recent period of offending.
Magistrates adjourned the case until the 31st October to allow a pre-sentence report to be compiled.

Lets hope your “opinion” isn’t taken as an insult to shopkeepers trying to keep their heads above water, and that other offenders look on it as OK.
