A Lake man who smoked cannabis to ease his back pain has been banned from the roads for a year after admitting drug driving.
Garry Fry, 25, of Lake Green Road, admitted drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week.
Lauren McConnell, prosecuting, told the court that on 31st January, Fry was stopped on Lamborey Road in Lake after Police noticed one of the taillights on his VW Golf was missing.
A roadside drugs wipe was conducted in which a positive reading for cannabis was returned.
Defending Fry, Michael McGoldrick told the court that his client suffers from severe back pain and that he was offered cannabis in attempts to alleviate said pain a few days before.
Handing down their sentence, Magistrates banned Fry from the roads for 12 months and ordered him to pay a fine of £80, costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge fee.

Ibuprofen is available for back pain,
drugs are not required.
Shame the ban wasn’t longer.
