Environmental Health officers discovered very poor standards of hygiene, heavy mould growth and serious cross-contamination risks during a food safety inspection at Lake Kebab Pizza & House.
The inspection, carried out in January, found widespread dirt, food debris and structural disrepair across multiple food preparation areas, prompting officers to order an urgent deep clean and extensive remedial works.
Cross-contamination risks were among the most serious findings within the takeaway, where raw lamb was being stored directly above a container of ready-to-eat chopped onions and large mayonnaise containers were reportedly being used to store both raw meats and ready-to-eat foods.
Inspectors reported a heavy build-up of dirt and debris throughout the rear raw meat preparation room, freezer room, pizza preparation area and servery. Floors were ingrained with dirt and heavy mould was found on the walk-in freezer door seal.
A can opener and an electric mixer used to prepare chilli sauce were covered in dirt and food debris, with standing water left inside the mixer bowl. A microwave in the rear prep room was heavily soiled and corroded.
Food was also found stored inside non-food-grade bin bags within a fridge.
Basic hygiene controls were not being maintained, and daily monitoring records under the Safer Food Better Business system had not been completed since September 2025.
In addition to cleanliness failures, widespread structural defects were identified with crumbling and poorly repaired walls, broken or missing tiles. Floor junctions were worn and uneven, trapping dirt. Ceiling panels showed damage consistent with water ingress and several ceiling tiles were displaced, leaving open cavities above food areas.

Close it down now? They are disgusting and they serve people food, yet the place is filthy, it looks horrid from the outside too?I wonder if anyone’s been seriously ill? People don’t go there then they will close?
This is not the first time they have received poor
ratings, they have obviously not listened.
Time to close it down, what is the point of
rating these places if the authorities allow them
to stay open.
What actually happens when Environmental Health Inspectors
visit such filthy establishments, they are not shut down
and still pose a risk to persons.
SO WHAT IS ACTUALLY ACHIEVED!!
“A leopard never changes it’s spots”, once a filth hole
always a filth hole.
I wouldn’t eat from such filthy establishments, and believe
me there are many filth holes on the island and on the mainland.
Safer to eat indoors, cheaper, cleaner and healthier.
Environmental Health inspectors don’t immediately shut businesses because the purpose of regulation is risk control and enforced improvement, not instant punishment. Closure only happens where there’s an imminent danger to health. In most cases inspectors issue legal improvement notices, require deep cleans, structural repairs, staff retraining and follow up inspections. The hygiene rating system also publicly informs customers so people can make their own decisions, that transparency alone pressures businesses to fix problems quickly because reputation directly affects trade.
So something is achieved, hazards are identified, standards are legally enforced, compliance is monitored, and the public is warned through the rating. Without inspections you wouldn’t even know there was a problem. Saying “nothing happens” ignores the entire enforcement process that exists specifically to prevent illness before people get sick, rather than reacting after harm occurs.
And the “once a filth hole always a filth hole” line just isn’t how reality works… Plenty of businesses move from 1 star to 4 or 5 after corrective action because inspections create accountability. The system isn’t designed around outrage or permanent punishment, it’s designed to raise standards across the industry. Criticising it for not shutting places instantly is basically criticising it for doing exactly what food safety law intends it to do.
So they have improved from a 0 to a 1
in my eyes they should now be closed down.
Will it take another 5-6 years to reach a rating of 2
It’s a joke, so many places look what they are, hence I
don’t go to them.
Their loss is my gain.
Perhaps you should eat there and treat your family to a take away too then!
Excellent idea, only a Numpty would go to such an
establishment, and I bet many will.
I totally agree with you it should be shut down now?
From the outside it looks like a NO go zone.
Someone might want to tell them to take the old 4 star sticker out of the window then, still there!
All establishments should be FORCED to show their
scores on the doors or fine them heavily
Why don’t they close it down.
Why are these places not checked more regular given the amount of these places that fail hygiene regulations.
Filthy dirty money grabbing lot that don’t care about the customers health.
Don’t eat there ever again.
How disgusting, close it down. Clearly the people running this business are more interested in profit, than public safety!
Doesn’t look inviting from the outside, still got there 4 star hygiene certificate up,very misleading, I expect they r to busy sat on there pizza fridge watching football to care
Numpty p@ssheads will eat anything and anywhere.
Once a Numpty always a Numpty
Nice kebabs though.
