In a UK Festival Exclusive, American rock heroes Green Day will close this year’s Isle of Wight Festival Main Stage on the Sunday night. The five-time Grammy Award winners and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, whose vastly praised catalogue has seen the band sell over 75million records globally, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their iconic album ‘Dookie’ and the 20th anniversary of ‘American Idiot’. Billie-Joe Armstrong (Lead singer/Guitarist) and Mike Dirnt (Bass/Backing vocals) – born Mike Pritchard – were childhood friends in California and founded a group with other students from their school called Blood Rage in 1987, which was later renamed Sweet Children. In 1992 they were joined by DrummerTre Cool (real name Frank Edwin Wright III) but the album ‘Kerplunk’ failed to grace the UK album charts. ‘Basket Case’ was only a minor hit in late 1994, when it was lifted from the Dookie album but it failed to make the UK Top 10. However, with Basket Case re-issued in 1995 it gave them their first Top 10 hit, and things were looking up for the band, now called Green Day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUTGr5t3MoY Later that year ‘Insomniac’ reached Number 8 in the charts but sales quickly fell away. Over the years Green Day have had 5x Number 1 albums and 18 hits. Their 14th studio album ‘Saviors’ was released in January 2024. A single ‘The American Dream is Killing Me’ was released in the Autumn of 2023 and a second single ‘Look Ma No Brains’ was released soon after. Green Day are touring at the moment and on tour they call upon regular cohorts. During June, as well as their Isle of Wight appearance, they will perform in Madrid (1st), Nurburgring (8th), Berlin (10th), Hamburg (11th), Interlaken (15th), Milan (16th), Paris (18th), Arnhem (19th) and Manchester on 21st. Following their performance at Barclaycard Presents the Isle of Wight Festival on 23rd June they will travel to Glasgow and Dublin before a sold out show at Wembley Stadium on 29th. A month later on 29th July its Washington DC and then the World…

Never heard of them.
Pet Shop Boys will Rock the IW Festival this year.
Bro’s Patrick Star
You’ve never heard of Green Day.Blimey
Ye he don’t get out much ill expect he lives in wrrrrroooxxxallll..there all a bit special out there….
John you really need to get out more, broaden your horizons and expand your knowledge of the world. Whether you’re aware of them or not is neither here nor there. To open your comment with “Never heard of them” is pointless. It makes you look like you have nothing to say but still want to be heard
I’ll leave you with this line from one of their more famous songs ‘Basket Case’.
“Do you have the time to listen to me whine
About nothing and everything all at once?”
I think it’s ironic really.
Troll. Green day has been around since the 80’s. No way you’ve never herd of them yet like Pet Shop boys.
Your knowledge of music is mind-blowing John!
