56 teams recently took part in the first-ever Graeme Bast Memorial Tournament, held in honour of a much-loved friend and colleague.
The event took place on Saturday (24th August) at The Bay CE School, bringing together the Isle of Wight football community for a weekend of matches, medals and memories.
A total of 7 age groups competed across 135 games. Every player received a medal, with trophies presented to winners and runners-up in each category.
The final results were:
- Under 8s: Vectis Youth FC (winners), Downside FC (runners-up)
- Under 9s: Ryde Saints FC (winners), Downside FC (runners-up)
- Under 10s: Downside FC (winners), Vectis Youth White (runners-up)
- Under 11s: Downside FC (winners), Shanklin U11s (runners-up)
- Under 12s: Vectis Youth (winners), Downside FC (runners-up)
- Under 13s: Newport FC (winners), Sandown and Lake FC (runners-up)
- Under 10 Girls: Vectis Girls FC (winners), Ryde Saints FC (runners-up)
Organisers have thanked everyone who made the tournament possible, including catering partners Vivid Catering and Wight Ices, sponsors A J Wells, and The Bay CE School – Community Facilities for their support.
Special recognition was also given to the referees and volunteers who worked behind the scenes, as well as the players for their passion, sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the weekend.
A spokesperson for the event has said:
“We are so delighted to have delivered this weekend of football in memory of our friend and colleague Graeme.
“It was a real community effort and a reflection of everything Graeme loved about the game.”
The event raised around £1,200 to be donated in Graeme’s memory, with plans already being discussed to make the tournament an annual tradition.
