Isle of Wight golfer Brandon Robinson Thompson equalled the Regnum Carya course record at the Turkish Open on Saturday (10th May).
Brandon fired a 3rd round 62 to move 3 shots clear ahead of the final round. He hit 3 birdies in his first 5 holes, all from inside 6 feet. He chipped in for eagle at the 12th, then birdied 3 of the last 4 holes, with the highlight a 22-foot putt at the 16th.
On Saturday, the 32-year-old golfer said:
“I’ve just got notified of that (the course record) and I’m a bit bummed I didn’t break it.
“I’m here with my wife, we’re staying in a beautiful hotel, the course is amazing.
“It’s hard not to enjoy yourself this week – the facilities are so good. I’m here with my wife, its such an incredible place, if you’re not having a good time this week win, lose or draw, there’s something wrong.”
Despite leading after the 3rd round, Brandon ended the Turkish Open in 4th place after a final round of 72 – finishing 13 under par – 4 shots behind the winner, Frenchman Martin Couvra.
4th place in the DP World Tour event has earned the Isle of Wight golfer £103,446 in prize money.
