GOLF CLUB’S CHARITY DAY A RESOUNDING SUCCESS FOR A WORTHY CAUSE

Freshwater Bay Golf Club hosted its annual charity day last Saturday (10th August) with this year’s event hailed an extraordinary success, both on and off the course. The chosen charity for 2024 was Freshwater Bay Independent Lifeboat – a service which continues to save lives around the Island’s coastline. The turnout of more than 80 golfers helped raise a figure of over £2,500 on the day. Best Away Player: Pete Dye (40) Best Lady: Di Clark (40) Best Over 70: Lyn Walker (38) Best Pair: Sean Wright & Matt Somerfield (79) Best Individual: Kevin Miles (42) Best Team: Tony Hammonds, Gary Dobson, Sean Wright and Matt Somerfield (131) Beyond the golf course, the highlight was undoubtedly Dot Porter who, at the age of 87, took to the skies for a tandem skydive showing extraordinary bravery and commitment. Her efforts raised an extra £1,500, bringing the total funds to £4,000. Tony Keen, this year’s club captain, thanked everyone who took part in this year’s fundraising with a special thank you to Dot Porter.
