A high performance car has smashed through the side of an industrial unit on Newport’s St Cross Business Park this morning (Tuesday).
It was at around 08:00 that Police and paramedics were alerted to the single vehicle incident on Monks Brook.
Island Echo understands the female driver of the VW Golf R lost control on a right hand bend, leaving the road and careering across the grass.
The vehicle then smashed into the side of the former Gurit factory, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the building.
Speed mixed with the wet road conditions are thought to have played a part in the crash.
The driver – who was heading into work when the accident occurred – has been checked over by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
She has escaped injury.
Recovery of the vehicle has been arranged.

PX it in for a less potent car… maybe a Lipo or something like that…
Careful chartMAN a lady driving a hi performance car what are you saying really….
No, my comment applies to any gender.
Grey area hurtie words police will jump on you someone will claim their offended as you were not that clear and it’s all about the original story Mr.chartMAN….
Ouch, right off probably? Going too fast maybe? Glad she’s ok though!
well it’s not exactly as if it’s a sharp bend,…
to loose control on that bend because of going too fast,.you’d have be going 60+…
‘phone in hand’ is my guess…
Yeah guess again plod don’t miss a trick it’s called procedure, breath wipe and phone they will know not guess a missing link….
Who doesn’t drive too fast on the island!
I will be glad when the Island Authorities impose
20mph
This Council don’t have the balls to impose 20mph,
but a Mayor will.
Roll on devolution and slow these Numpty’s down.
When is your next appointment at 7 acres?
Pompey and Bognor have 20mph Zones
It is the only way to stop Numpty islanders
speeding.
Maybe you are one of the speeding Numpty’s,
hence being against 20mph.
Women know your limits
You missed one”the splinter still in your arse as you penned your witty?comment”!.
“Speed mixed with the wet road conditions are thought to have played a part in the crash.” ………… but possibly driver not driving according to the road conditions?
This report is about my daughter. She recently was given the all clear from cancer after a gruelling chemotherapy regime. She leased the car as a well done to herself for beating cancer. We’ve just had a hot spell of weather and after some rain, roads get slippery and that’s what happened this morning. She was on her way to work, wasn’t speeding, just unlucky. So for all of you judgemental folk out there – perhaps get your information straight before you get up onto your high judging horses. The police have said, quite rightly, that it was an accident and there will be no further action.
And to those people who took all the trouble to come out of their offices to gawp and take pictures of her rather than offering help, shame on you all.
And also, for her four kids who were told via the Echo at school that their mum had had an accident after all they’ve already been through. Thanks.
That is so sad. Unfortunately these pages are infested with idiotic comments from the usual ‘keyboard warriors’ (what a misnomer that is). I hope your daughter and family are well
Another speeding Numpty who was obviously
driving under par.
Why don’t Numpty’s slow down, especially in wet
conditions.
12 points if the cause was due to speeding, no
feeble excuses.
after its been sunny and then rained all the oils from roads come to the surface and that was what happened here its not excuses its common knowledge
What is it like to be so perfect and holier than thou. The one thing that you are so good at is pissing people off and a lot of the time talking crap. Instead of having a go at people, go to the source and try to get things changed. Have a nice day.
