Isle of Wight champions Whitecroft & Barton Sports reached the Gold Cup semi-finals after a dramatic quarter-final against Shanklin was settled by penalties at Sandy Lane.
With the champions carrying expectation as well as form, Whitecroft & Barton made a purposeful start and took an early lead when Kalaker flicked home from close range following a corner (1-0). Shanklin were undeterred and responded with real intent, drawing level when Day converted from the penalty spot after Arnold was fouled by goalkeeper Williams (1-1).
W&B settled quickly and regained the advantage through a moment of quality, Cant unleashing a superb strike from outside the area that flew beyond Goldsmith and into the net (2-1). The goal restored control and underlined the threat the champions carried whenever space opened up.

The hosts extended their lead early in the second half when Pearson smashed a low effort into the bottom corner to make it 3-1. Shanklin, however, refused to be overawed and struck back through White from close range (3-2), before a well-worked team move was finished by Parsons to level the tie once more (3-3).
As the contest swung from end to end, W&B edged ahead again when Green was adjudged to have been fouled by Gregory, allowing Pearson to convert from the spot (4-3). Even then, the champions were not allowed to see the game out comfortably.
Deep into the final minute, Shanklin forced penalties as Trowbridge curled a superb free kick into the top corner, leaving Sandy Lane stunned (4-4).

The shootout reflected the balance of the contest, with both sides missing chances as the tension grew. Experience eventually told, with Williams saving penalties from Flux and Drudge before stepping forward himself to score the decisive kick and settle the tie.

Whitecroft & Barton Sports will now face Wessex League opposition in the semi-finals, with one of the Island’s Big Three awaiting – East Cowes Victoria, Cowes Sports or Newport – while Shanklin exited after a performance that pushed the Isle of Wight champions to their limits.
In other cup games…
East Cowes Sports have got through to the quarter finals of the Hampshire Vase by beating Bournemouth Electric away from home. Seb Jones, Callum Fryer and Joe Crabbe were on target for the East Cowes side. High Park Reserves and West Wight A failed to get through to the next round.
A Finn Smith hat track, a brace from Michael Brown and a further goal from Sam Kirby saw Bembridge & Vectis reach the 3rd round of the Memorial Cup at the expense of Oakfield.
Binstead & COB, Niton, ECS Reserves and Brading Town Reserves have all battled their way through to the 3rd round of the Junior A Cup. The Binstead scorers were Cam O’Rourke (X2), Ash Smith and Liam Lack; Roland Bryan (X2), Jake Cook (X2) and Roland Bryan Jnr were on target for ECS; Tim Shaw (X2), Adam Cantelo and Alex Hatton grabbed the goals for Brading.
In Harwoods Saturday League…
A brace from Brad Thomas and further goals from Ash Brett and Gareth Bricknell saw West Wight top Division 1 on goal difference by putting 4 past High Park at Camp Road.
Brading Town were held at home by Cowes Sports, with Dan Vale and Liam Bennett on target for the Romans and Mark Goodwin ands Luca Weeks scoring for the Yachtsmen.
A Charlie Butt strike and an own goal saw Northwood SJ overcome Osborne Coburg at the Isle of Wight Community Club.
Unbeaten Sandown & Lake have gone 7 points clear of Binstead at the top of Division 2 by defeating Pan at Clatterford Rec thanks to a brace by Rowenn Churchill and a further goal from Alex Breingan.
