Over the last 2 weekends the Isle of Wight Girls League held its biggest football tournament event yet, which Newport Girls FC hosted at their new ground at Niton Football Club.
Teams from Newport, Brading, Cowes, Ventnor, Ryde Saints, Sandown and Vectis entered teams across 5 age groups to compete in the round robin style tournament which was also the first time U8s matches have been held on the Island.
In addition to the U8s there were matches in the U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s categories with a massive 96 games being played in total across the 2 Saturdays, which was a record for one of these events and testament to how much girls football is growing on the Isle of Wight.
Isle of Wight Girls League Chair, Jess Cutler, has said:
“We are really proud of these tournaments and hopeful that we can continue to not only grow these events but over time add additional clubs, players and coaches. We are always interested to hear from anyone who would like to get involved.”
