Freshwater Independent Lifeboat was called into action early this morning (Sunday) to assist an unwell rower practising for a transatlantic challenge in 2018.
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of ‘The Spirit of the West Wight III’ at 06:41 and it wasn’t long before the lifeboat hit the water.
The casualty was swiftly located and a tow was established to take the large, specialist rowing boat back aground to Yarmouth Harbour where paramedics checked over the rower for seasickness.
The independent lifeboat station’s smaller D-Class lifeboat was also launched to escort the rowing boat to The Needles in case of any problems on board.
